A flick of the wrist sent the coin tumbling into the air, glittering gold in the murky light cast by a myriad candles, before it was snatched from the air by swift fingers. Quickly, it was brought before the golden gaze of a woman, who's stare seemed to bore into the shining coin, before, with a sharp move of her neck, she snapped that regard onto the man seated across from her - and the one who had tossed the coin. She held the coin between two of her long fingers, with an almost casual disregard for its worth, seemingly disinterested now that she had caught it. A complete and utter sham, of course. It was all Tsiaa could do not to stare, rapt, at the shimmering gold, but the human watching her, leaning back in his seat, smug as anything, didn't need to know that.
"Alright, so your gold's good," she said, pocketing the coin in a pouch beneath her cloak before she picked up her drink, and took a long swallow. A tavern wasn't exactly a novel place for a meeting, much less for one such as theirs, but it was better than lurking in dark streets, and murmuring beneath lamplight. People milled about, enjoying themselves after a day at work, or catching up with friends. It was a good place to meet, because it was full of people. No-one would notice a man and woman, sat together, speaking.
A moment of silence passed, both expecting the other to produce something, and Tsiaa smirked, leaning forwards the tap the scarred table with a fingertip.
"Just because you have one coin doesn't mean you have all my coins," she said.
"No, prove you have the item - and then you get your gold," the man countered, crossing his arms as if that settled it. The gryphon-turned-human sniffed, but a momentary lapse in the human's attention, a mere flicking of his eyes to one side, piqued her curiosity. She didn't turn to gawk over her shoulder - that would give away that she knew something was up, or at least suspected it - but she decided to be ready to leg it if need be.
Shrugging one shoulder, she made a show of digging under her cloak, eventually producing a heavy, leather bound book, which she placed upon the table between them.
"Somewhat troublesome for light reading, if you ask me. But you're not paying me for my opinion, just my skill," Tsiaa said, hand flashing out to land upon the book as the human reached for it. "It's not yours until more gold changes hands."
The man stared at her, irritation writ large in his expression, but Tsiaa just smiled. She was a huntress - she could be patient. Especially if gold was so close she could smell it. So what if he had something planned? There was no reward without risk!
